News Release - ICAS urges Cable to throw lifeline to SMEs The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) is calling on Vince Cable, Business Secretary, to avoid any further damage to SMEs in the measures taken to reduce the budget deficit.
In a letter to Dr Cable, ICAS has urged the government to focus on encouraging SMEs by reducing regulation and increasing funding.

News Release – ICAS survey highlights concerns about imminent changes to company tax filing The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) has conducted a member survey to assess whether companies and tax agents are ready for implementation of mandatory corporation tax online filing on 1 April 2011.
From that date almost all UK companies will be required to submit their statutory accounts and tax computations online in a new technology format known as iXBRL, which will require much of the electronic data to be tagged with additional computer-readable information.

Professional accountants must lead the way in ‘telling it straight’ says new ICAS President We are pleased to announce that Alan Thomson today took office as the new President of The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS).
Speaking at today’s AGM in Glasgow, the new President said: “With the recession hopefully now behind us, there is a clear imperative for professional accountants – whether they are advising businesses, or running them – to more effectively communicate the performance and challenges of that business. Telling it straight will give investors, shareholders and the wider public greater confidence.”
