The Helen Jones Appeal Fund
The Helen Jones Appeal Fund was established in 2005 by the Scottish Accountancy Trust for Education & Research (SATER), in order to make an annual scholarship in memory of Helen, a Chartered Accountant, who was killed in the bombings in London in July 2005. The object of the Fund is to help a school pupil from Dumfries and Galloway to study Accountancy, Finance or Management at university.
Receiving her award at a ceremony in Edinburgh today, Kirsty said, “I am delighted to have been awarded the Helen Jones scholarship. I know that Helen was on her way to a great career and I hope that the fund in her memory can help me to achieve the same. This will be a great help to me when I go to University.”
Helen’s mother, Liz Staffell, said “Kirsty impressed us as a very focussed young person with clear goals. She has much to contribute to life and is a very worthy recipient of the Helen Jones scholarship”.
SATER Trustee, Alison McGilvray, said, “We were impressed by Kirsty’s determination, self discipline and desire to set and achieve high standards for herself. As well as being academically strong, she is also an athlete and has already represented Scotland at the long jump and hurdles.SATER is delighted to be helping to keep Helen’s memory alive by supporting talented students from the area where she grew up.”
